Biography

Dr. Lisa Webb joined the faculty of CNU in the Fall of 2004. She has degrees in chemistry (B.A., Maryville College, 1985), Science Education (M.Ed., University of Georgia, 1995), and Biomedical Sciences (Ph.D., University of Tennessee, 2001). Before she earned her Ph.D., her first career was as a high school science teacher in the metropolitan Atlanta area. After she finished her Ph.D., she received two postdoctoral fellowships to continue her research at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine (2001-2004). Her training encompasses the fields of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Science Education, and her research has focused primarily on using the mouse as a model organism to study human genetic diseases. Since coming to CNU, Dr. Webb has published in the field of molecular ecology and neurodegeneration; her work is currently focused on using mouse models to study the biochemistry of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dr. Webb teaches undergraduate courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry as well as a Freshman Honors Seminar and a graduate course in the Teacher Preparation program. She has also taught a graduate course on Scientific and Technical Writing and led a 2019 Study Abroad course on Historic Epidemics. She served as the inaugural Department Chair in the Department of Molecular Biology and Chemistry from 2011 until 2018 and was Visiting Faculty at the University of Glasgow during the Spring of 2020 when she led the CNU in Scotland Study Abroad Program.
